1. Organising Authority  


1.1 The organising authority is The Shipman Association.

 

1.2 All enquiries should be addressed to: The Sailing Secretary on ‘WhatsApp - Shipman Association’.

 

 

2. Rules, Eligibility & Sailing Instructions


2.1 The event is governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of Irish Sailing, the Class rules of the Shipman Association, this Notice of Race (NoR), the Sailing Instructions (SI) and any changes thereto. In the event of any conflict between the NoR and the SI, the latter shall prevail.


2.2 The SI will be posted on the Irish Shipman Association website: http://www.irishshipmanassociation.com/   


2.3 This Offshore Cruise Race to Wicklow is open to all Shipman 28 boats and whose owners/skippers are fully paid-up members of the Shipman Association [Annual fee of €15.00] and whose boats are registered to participate in Shipman activities [see website above]. Entries are accepted at the sole discretion of the Shipman Committee.


2.4 The boat must be helmed by the owner, or part owner who must be a regular helm of the boat and be a Member of the Shipman Association.


2.5 The crew on each boat shall consist of the team which normally crew that boat at club level or crew of equivalent skill and experience.


2.6 All boats shall display the Shipman Burgee on the backstay while racing.


3. Entry Fee

3.1 Boats entering in this event must be registered to participate in Shipman activities; a fee of €30.00 per year due at commencement of the sailing season.  

3.2 Boats who have not done so to date can pay online on the Shipman Website: www.irishshipmanassociation.com 


4. Schedule of Races, Registration and Briefing


4.1 The Race is a pursuit race using times as agreed with the Flag Officers.

4.2 The starting line in Dublin Bay is between the Start Boat and the DBSC Pier Mark.

  1. The signal for the race will be sound signals

  2. HW Dun Laoghaire is at 12.55 IST at 3.97m

  3. It is mandatory that each boat shall have a working VHF radio on board.

  4. Participating Boats shall communicate on VHF Channel 72

  5. The time limit for finishing in Wicklow shall be 17.00hrs.


5. Prizes


5.1 Prizes shall be awarded for First boat to Wicklow as well as First on Handicap.


6. Competitors’ responsibility and Safety:


6.1 The safety of a boat and her crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the owner or skipper. Neither these sailing instructions nor any action of the organising authority in any way limits or reduces the complete and unlimited responsibility of the owner or skipper.

6.2 Attention is drawn to RRS Part 1.

6.3 Boat owners and crews should ensure that they are adequately insured.  

6.4 No responsibility shall be accepted by either The Shipman Association, its servants or agents, for any loss, damage or injury or other claim whatever nature howsoever arising or caused in connection with participation in, or intended participation in, the event.

6.5 Each competitor shall wear a lifejacket while racing.

6.6 All boats shall carry an operating VHF radio capable of transmitting and receiving VHF Channel 16 & 72.

7. Racing Area


7.1 Races will be sailed in the waters between Dun Laoghaire Harbour and Wicklow Harbour.

Start position will be at DBSC Pier Mark and the start line will be dependent on wind direction at time of race


8. The Course

  1. The Start line will be at DBSC [V] Pier Mark

  2. Boats may pass the islands either side.

  3. Boats must round the outfall at Greystones South Beach to Port. [N53.140127 W6.040751]

  4. The finishing line is between the Light Houses on the piers of Wicklow Harbour.

  5. Competitors are asked to record their finishing positions and times.

Note: Competitors should have their engines running in neutral on the approach to the harbour entrance. The engine may be used to affect an entry to the Harbour if necessary due to commercial traffic in the harbour.

9. Social

9.1 There will be a supper for race participants and guests in the Wicklow Sailing Club on Saturday night at approx. 19:00. (to be confirmed closer to the date).

9.2 Places at the supper must be booked and pre-paid at least 3 days prior to the start of the race, on the Shipman Association website www.irishshipmanassociation.com

9.3 Boats who have failed to book and pre-pay for the dinner by Friday evening on the 19th of May should make alternative dining arrangements.

9.4 The event finishes after supper on Saturday. Boats shall make their own way back to Dun Laoghaire.  

9.5 The upgoing flood tide starts at 06.42 on Sunday morning 21st May, HW Wicklow is 13.28 IST 2.52 m.


10. Moorings


10.1 It is our intention to tie up for the night to the Harbour wall in Wicklow Harbour.


10.2 Competitors are advised to bring adequate fenders and long shore-lines as it may be necessary for boats to raft alongside.
